I recently needed to switch my make up products. I had been using the same mix of high end and drug store items for who knows how long. I know they were way past expiration and I knew they were full of crap I really didn't want to keep putting on my face. But my money tree is still stuck in Narnia so I couldn't imagine throwing out all that make up till I had used it up. So I began my search for new make up. Most of you who follow me know I switched to mostly homemade, all natural, vegan products a while ago and have been switching more and more of my daily use items since then. I toyed with a few all natural, homemade make up products but I just couldn't get the look I wanted or I didn't like the feel. It just wasn't working for me. I like to be girly, fancy, dress up and get pretty every now and then. The natural "kitchen beauty" products were ok and great for my crunchy side but my glittery side just wasn't feeling it. I hunted and hunted and then found TYRA!
I am IN LOVE with miss Tyra Banks! I have been for years- I obsess over America's Next Top Model, I think she's such a stand up, genuine person. She fights to change the industry stereotypes and she's a business genius! I honestly can't believe I hadn't thought of it first when I started looking. I remember watching the season where she launched her line and this last season when she made her ad video. But thankfully it fell into my lap again via a beautytainer I met on Facebook. Tyra Beauty is sold online and through Beautytainers- independent sales reps, not in stores, which fit right into my "shop local/small business" lifestyle that I'm trying to maintain. So that was a plus. As I got to know the product and company, I learned that while it wasn't made in a kitchen, it WAS pretty chemical free and it's NOT tested on animals. Those are two of my biggest reasons for wanting to go natural with my products. So that was a huge plus that I was able to find a product that stayed true to my brand and was created by someone I really admire.

I recently received my Kit- the 5 minute Tyover and I wanted to share my review on it. They have a few different ways you can buy to fit your budget, which I liked a LOT, very budget friendly for a product of its quality! The bundle I got had the Sculpt, Cheek, Light in a stick (for face) Lip stick, Eyes in a Stick (cream shadow) and Mascara. It retails for $131 but the bundle price is only $78.60 which I thought was an amazing price for what I got. They are a good size too and I'm told that they can last about 3 months, maybe longer depending if you use them everyday, which I don't so I wont have to buy a new kit for a while! It's safe to say that I LOVE this company and it's products. Tyra did an AMAZING job with this line and I'm excited to see wheat more launches. They just celebrated their ONE year Tyra-versary, so this company really is brand spankin new! Ok ok, review time now!
The Review-
Everyone is different and has different preferences when it comes to their coverage. I personally have very red cheeks and a few acne spots to cover as well as dark circles under my eyes. Tyra Beauty does not yet have a foundation (but I hear its coming) so I have one that I like from BareMinerals. I started by dabbing a little on the redness areas and the spots I wanted covered. My rep gave me the tip to use Cheek in a Stick as a dark circle corrector because that red orange helps eliminate the blue purple color of the dark circles (its a color theory thing, trust me!) What a genius tip! You just dab a bit on and then take your foundation over it and dab dab dab. ((It looks a little scary at first but it gets better!)) |
Next I layered up the Sculpt, Cheek and Light and used my middle and ring fingers to dab and blend, dab and blend. You can go over it again with whichever one you want a little more of. More contour? Add a little more Sculpt and blend it in. I know my cheeks are red already so why do I use the Cheek in a stick? I have rosacea so the red is blotchy and not cute. I like to cover it up with a little concealer and then put a little blush on where I want it to be. I use the Light in a stick after my eyes are done as a highlighter. Then I go over it with some setting powder.
I don't yet have the brow pencil so I just use a basic one for now. That's next on my list to get, along with the Make Out Liner and Smooth as Silk lipstick in Runway Red! I use the Eyes in a Stick to add a soft smokey look. I swipe it on like liner a little and then use a blending brush to buff it out and over my lid. You can really customize your eye with this, depending on how much or how little you use, I went for really subtle today. You can use your finger to blend, I choose to use the brush out of habit and because I think its a softer look. There are a ton of colors to choose from and more will be coming. I want to get Sand Dollar Signs next to put on the middle and inner lid for a different look. |
I finish it off with the Smack My Fat Lash mascara which I LOVE!! I have spent insane amounts of money over the years on mascara trying to find the perfect one and this one is my favorite. I can layer it a little for more volume and thickness or just use one coat to keep it simple. I used two here. This whole look really did only take 5 minutes, maybe 8 tops. Which I am so thankful for because as a busy working mom I just don't have the same kind of time to get ready in the morning as I used to.
I really love the feel of this line, its not heavy but the coverage is perfect. Its not greasy, and I don't feel like my pores are clogged. The shadow doesn't get that weird little crease in it like most cream shadows do and the lipstick (which I'm not wearing here) doesn't feel sticky, stiff or awkward like some do. It stays put through my coffee and lunch. I sometimes forget its on because I cant feel it which is a HUGE plus!
Its safe to say I'm hook! I love the company and the brand and I might be posting a lot more about it in the future! Its really important to me to support (as much and as often as I can) companies, brands and products that are true to my personal brand. Tyra Beauty does all of that and allows me to show off my fancy side without too much effort and without harming animals or putting chemicals into my body. Win Win!!
